Preparing for a Meeting With Your Personal Injury Attorney

    Last updated 10 months ago

If you have been involved in an accident and are preparing for a meeting with a personal injury lawyer, you may be nervous and likely have no idea where to start. First, if your prospective personal injury attorney has sent you a questionnaire, fill it out and return it before your meeting. Second, begin gathering important documents. These may include copies of an accident report, medical bills, hospital records, and more. Finally, you want to be prepared with questions. Here are a few questions to start with:

What are your areas of practice and how much experience do you have?

Graduating from law school and passing the bar exam does not make a lawyer an expert in every possible area of practice. Most attorneys focus their practice on a few specific areas, and it is important to find an attorney with experience in personal injury cases to handle your case.

    How do you handle fees?

Many personal injury lawyers will handle your case on a contingency fee basis. This means that you will only owe the personal injury lawyer if you recover from the other party, and the amount you owe will be a set percentage that varies depending on the amount of the award. In some cases, an attorney may work on an hourly fee or charge a set fee for a certain type of case.

    What should I expect?

If you have never had to hire a personal injury attorney before, you likely have no idea about the legal process, the timeline you’re facing, or what else to expect. While you should be wary of any lawyer who promises a big settlement or victory, an experienced personal injury lawyer can explain potential outcomes and what you should expect in your type of case.

Defensive Driving Strategies to Help Avoid Auto Accidents

    Last updated 11 months ago

A vehicle collision can be detrimental for a number of reasons. In addition to serious physical complications, it may produce significant financial repercussions due to high medical bills and lost wage compensation. However, you can employ several defensive driving strategies to avoid an automobile accident and the subsequent need for a personal injury lawyer.

Avoid driving in the left lane.

Otherwise known as the fast lane, the left lane is associated with the highest rate of highway crashes than any other lane. By staying in either the center or right lane, you afford yourself more escape routes to avoid potential accidents. Also, by virtue of its name, the fast lane typically attracts individuals who want to drive speedily, which increases the chance of a collision and the involvement of an auto accident lawyer in cases of injury.

Monitor the traffic in front of you.

Rather than watching only the vehicle immediately ahead of your own, concentrate as well on cars that are a hundred feet beyond. Focusing on these vehicles to determine if they are moving at a steady speed, slowing down, or stopping altogether will allow you the greatest amount of time to respond properly.

Keep an eye on suspicious drivers.

A hugely effective defensive driving strategy is observing other drivers for unsafe driving practices. If you notice a fellow driver sporadically breaking or weaving between lanes, remove yourself from that car’s proximity as quickly and safely as possible. The driver may be tired, intoxicated, or impaired for any number of reasons; regardless, they pose a considerable risk to those around them. To prevent a potential car accident, create as much distance between yourself and that car. If possible, contact authorities if you witness any erratic driving behavior while on the road.
